Section 232

Overview

Some customers importing steel or aluminium products into the United States may require information relating to U.S. Section 232. This regulation requires U.S. importers to declare the country of melt and pour (steel) or country of smelt and cast (aluminium) to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Section 232 is a trade and tariff requirement. It is not related to chemical compliance and is separate from regulations such as California Proposition 65, REACH, or RoHS.

Trojan Special Fasteners Ltd does not carry out any melting, pouring, smelting, or casting operations. We source finished materials from upstream suppliers. Many mills do not provide melt/pour origin as part of their standard documentation, and this information is not always available within the supply chain.

Where melt/pour information is not supplied to us, we cannot declare it. U.S. importers may still import goods by declaring the melt/pour origin as unknown, in line with U.S. Customs guidance.

The formal statement below explains our position.

Section 232 – Statement of Non‑Availability of Melt & Pour Information

Trojan Special Fasteners Ltd confirms the following:

  • We do not perform any melting, pouring, smelting, or casting operations.
  • All steel and aluminium materials used in our products are sourced as finished bar, wire, sheet, or forgings from upstream suppliers.
  • Our upstream suppliers do not provide country of melt and pour (steel) or country of smelt and cast (aluminium) information unless explicitly stated on the mill certificate.
  • As a result, we are unable to declare melt/pour origin under U.S. Section 232 requirements.
  • We do not alter the metallurgical origin of the material at any stage.
  • We can provide country of manufacture for our finished parts.
  • We can provide mill certificates where supplied, but these do not normally include melt/pour origin.

If melt/pour origin is required for U.S. import purposes, the importer may need to declare the origin as unknown or obtain this information directly from the producing mill.
