DIN 267-4

DIN 267 Part 4:1987

Technical Delivery Conditions

Property Classes for Nuts (Previous Classes)

This standard is current and unlikely to be withdrawn. It was converted to the international property classes in 1967. The previous symbols, 4D, 5D, 5S, 6G, 6S and 8G were replaced by code numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 where the numbers indicated 1/100th of the minimum tensile strength.

The proof loads values specified here are lower in comparison to ISO 898-2.

DIN 267 Part 4 classes which comply with ISO 898-2 are marked with two vertical bars, for example | 8 | instead of 8.

Property classes for nuts without defined proof load values (hardness classes) have been taken from DIN 267 Part 4 and have been specified in DIN 267 Part 24.

Field of Application

Nuts specified to this standard must withstand specified proof loads and:

  • internal diameters of D ≤ M39,
  • ISO Metric threads compliant to DIN 13 Part 13,
  • thread tolerances 6G and 4H to 7H compliant to DIN 13 Part 15,
  • with minimum height m ≥ 0.8D
  • across flats or external diameters of ≥ 1.45D

This does not apply to nuts which

  • are assigned to property classes in accordance with ISO 898-2
  • have locking ability (DIN 267 Part 15)
  • are weldable
  • have corrosion resistance (DIN 267 Part 11)
  • used in temperatures above 300°C or below -50°C (DIN 267 Part 13)

Nuts made from free-cutting steel shall not be used above 250°C.

Mechanical Properties Table

These properties apply for testing at standard room temperature and pressure.
