Why Engineers Choose Trojan Special Fasteners

Most fastener suppliers stock standard catalogue items and ship from a warehouse. Trojan Special Fasteners does something different. Every nut we supply is machined in-house at our Birmingham facility, to your exact specification, in the material and thread form you need. That distinction matters when standard catalogue products cannot meet your requirements - which is precisely the situation most of our customers are in when they contact us.

We Are a Manufacturer, Not a Distributor

Trojan does not buy in, stock, or resell standard catalogue fasteners. Every component is machined on our own CNC and automatic lathes in Birmingham. This means full control over dimensions, tolerances, materials, thread forms, and features. If you need a non-standard size, an unusual pitch, a legacy imperial thread, or a custom feature such as castellation or a flange, we machine it to your drawing or sample.

Importantly, when we produce standard fasteners, we do so in small batch runs that are always precision bar-turned from solid stock. We do not manufacture low-grade, mass-produced commodity items or high-volume forged nuts. This method preserves superior material integrity, sharp thread profiles, and exact dimensional accuracy across every piece.

It also means full traceability. Material certificates to EN 10204 3.1 are available for every order because we know exactly what bar stock each component was machined from. Direct manufacturer pricing means no distributor margin and no middleman markup. When you place an order with Trojan, you are speaking directly to the people who will machine your parts.

What Makes Trojan the Right Choice

The widest range of nut types from a single UK manufacturer
Trojan manufactures hex nuts, castle and slotted nuts, flange and collar nuts, nylon insert locking nuts, all-metal prevailing torque nuts, connector and coupling nuts, square nuts, round nuts and spacers, dome and cap nuts, wheel nuts, and bespoke specials to drawing. If you need more than one nut type, you deal with one supplier, one quality system, and one set of paperwork. Access our full product range to see how we streamline sourcing.

Non-standard and intermediate sizes as standard
Standard catalogues cover a limited range of sizes and pitches. Trojan manufactures from M3 up to M52 in metric - including coarse, fine, extra fine, and non-preferred pitches - and from 6BA to 2.1/4" in imperial and unified thread forms. If the size you need is not in any catalogue, we machine it.

Legacy and obsolete thread forms
BSW, BSF, BA, CEI, BSCy, BSG, stay thread, and other imperial forms are available as standard at Trojan. We regularly duplicate obsolete or legacy fasteners from customer samples - including pre-war components, heritage vehicle parts, and vintage machinery fixings that no distributor can supply.

A material range that covers almost every application
Our raw material stocking capability spans mild steel (EN1A, EN3B), high-tensile steel (EN8, EN16T, Grade 8, 10, 12), stainless steel (303, 304, 316, 410, 430), brass (CZ121/CW614N free-cutting, Naval Brass C46400), phosphor bronze, aluminium bronze, aluminium (6082, 2011), copper (C101), nylon, and defense-grade NES833. Material certificates to EN 10204 3.1 are available for all orders.

Mixed-thread connector nuts
Trojan machines mixed-thread connector nuts with different thread forms on each end - for example M20 metric on one side and 3/4" BSW on the other. This is a capability that standard distributors simply cannot offer.

No minimum order quantity on bar-turned runs
Single prototypes, small trial batches, and targeted production runs are all handled with equal capability. Because our processes are built on precision turning rather than multi-ton forging dies, our setup workflow is efficient enough to make small batch runs and single-unit quantities economically viable. If you need one nut to prove a design, we will machine it.

Fast turnaround from a UK facility
Same-day quotations on most enquiries. Standard items in common materials: 3-5 working days. Bespoke nuts to drawing or unusual materials: 7-10 working days. Expedited service available for urgent requirements. Everything machined in Birmingham - no reliance on overseas supply chains.

ISO 9001:2015 certified with full documentation
Every order is supported by our quality management system. Documentation available includes material certificates, heat treatment certificates, plating certificates, certificates of conformity, and initial sample inspection reports. Full traceability from bar stock to finished component on every job.

31+ years of specialist manufacturing
Since 1991, Trojan has built a track record across aerospace, automotive, railway, marine, construction, and industrial machinery. The unusual jobs - the ones other suppliers decline - are our core business. If you are thinking of switching suppliers, our continuous operational tenure provides complete quality security.

Comprehensive Subcontract Machining & Free-Issue Services

In addition to our full-service fastener manufacturing, Trojan operates a highly responsive subcontract machine shop equipped with a comprehensive layout of specialized tooling. We regularly process free-issue materials and customer blanks to save your company time and material sourcing costs. You can contract out specialized engineering operations directly to our Birmingham facility, including:

  • Precision Tapping & Over-Tapping: We tap your supplied blanks or re-tap existing free-issue nuts. We regularly handle orders from structural engineers who require internal threads re-tapped after hot-dip galvanising to clear out zinc build-up - supporting standard, oversized, right-hand, and left-hand profiles.
  • Polygon Turning: As sourcing hexagon raw bar stock becomes increasingly difficult across the industry, we utilize polygon turning to machine precise hexagon or square nut profiles directly from round bar stock or round nuts.
  • Slotting & Castellation: Precision slotting operations for industrial nuts, bolts, or set screws to your exact positional count and depth boundaries.
  • Boring & Re-Boring: Internal boring adjustments to modify or open up inside diameters on existing components to your exact engineering tolerances.
  • Multi-Angle Drilling & Cross-Drilling: Advanced cross-drilling layouts processed at multiple matching technical angles and verified radial depths.
  • Facing & Reducing: Machine reduction of thickness on your existing inventory to convert standard profiles into custom thin or low-profile locknuts.
  • Thread Distortion: Precision application of localized mechanical crushing to produce reliable, all-metal prevailing torque locking features on machined components.

Simply free-issue your raw materials, semi-finished goods, or stock blanks directly to us, supply your dimension criteria, and let our team provide an efficient sub-contract quote. Explore our full capabilities on our dedicated subcontract services page.

When Trojan is the Right Choice

Trojan is typically the right choice when:

  • The size or pitch you need is not available from standard catalogue stock
  • You want precision bar-turned quality in small batches rather than forged bulk commodities
  • You need a thread form that distributors do not carry - BSW, BSF, BA, CEI, stay thread, or a non-standard metric pitch
  • You need to free-issue components or blanks for secondary operations like post-galvanised re-tapping or polygon turning
  • You need material certification to EN 10204 3.1 for traceability or compliance
  • You need a custom feature - castellation, flanges, collars, spigots, cross-holes, slots, or domed ends
  • You need a connector nut with different thread forms on each end
  • You need to duplicate an obsolete or legacy fastener from a sample or drawing
  • You need a prototype before committing to production volumes
  • You need a rush order within 3-5 working days from a UK manufacturer
  • You need a single point of supply for multiple nut types under one quality system

When a Distributor May Be the Better Option

If you need standard metric or imperial fasteners in common materials and sizes - and they are available from stock - a distributor will often be faster and cheaper for commodity volumes. Trojan's value is in the non-standard, the bespoke, and the specialist. If your requirements are straightforward catalogue items in massive quantities where unit price is the only consideration and forged commodity limits are acceptable, we will tell you that honestly. If your requirements go beyond what mass-market catalogues can offer, that is where we excel.
