#nylocs are prevailing torque fasteners that have a nylon 6 or 66 ring. This ring deforms when applied to a mating thread and increases friction. This friction creates prevailing torque and thus reduces the ability for the fastener to loosen upon vibration.

Nyloc or nylon insert nuts are typically used in continuous service temperatures of between -30 and 95 degrees C. The nuts can withstand use for short periods of up to 165 degrees C but it's not recommended as the ring undergoes thermoplastic deformation at 103 degrees C.

For higher temperature use we would recommend either an all-metal prevailing torque locking nut or perhaps one with a ring made from PEEK (PolyEtherEtherKetone) which can operate at temperatures of up to 260 degrees C.
